Step 1: Your Complimentary Consultation With Our Optometrists

Your path to clearer vision starts with a simple step – scheduling your complimentary consultation. At Nittany Eye Associates, we believe in making your LASIK experience as easy as possible, which is why you’re able to request your consultation online, over the phone, or even during your annual eye exam. No doctor referral is needed to get started.

Step 2: Comprehensive Consultation and Eye Assessment

During your consultation, our dedicated LASIK Coordinator will perform a series of tests and scans on your eyes to gather crucial information. This data will help our eye doctors to determine your eligibility and discuss the best surgery options for you.

We encourage you to write down any questions you may have about the procedure so you can ask them during the consultation. Remember that as much as the consultation allows us to collect essential information, it’s also an opportunity for you to do the same as a patient.

Step 3: Pre-Operative LASIK Appointment

At your pre-operative appointment, you can expect our LASIK Coordinator to collect final measurements using advanced scans. They’ll also provide you with essential pre and post-surgical care instructions.

The pre-operative assessment also includes a comprehensive dilated eye exam, which will be one by one of our eye doctors. We'll send your prescription for necessary eye drops to your preferred pharmacy, ensuring everything is in place for your surgery day.

Please note that if you wear contact lenses or ortho-k, we recommend discontinuing their use at least one week before your pre-op appointment and remaining contact-free until your surgery date (typically two weeks in total). Contact lenses can temporarily alter the shape of your cornea, which is why this step is important for a successful LASIK procedure.

Step 4: Surgery Day

The big day arrives! On your scheduled surgery day, be sure to arrive with a trusted driver. Our LASIK coordinator will go over your final paperwork and address any last-minute concerns you may have. One of our skilled LASIK surgeons will provide you with a detailed overview of what to expect during and after the procedure, ensuring you feel comfortable throughout the entire process.

The refractive surgery itself takes place in our state-of-the-art surgical suite and typically lasts less than 15 minutes for most patients. Afterwards, we’ll perform a quick check to ensure the healing process has begun, and once you're cleared, you'll be free to head home with your designated driver.

Step 5: Post-Operative Care

Your LASIK journey doesn't end with surgery, post-op care is an essential part of the process, too. Following your procedure, you'll be expected to administer prescription eye drops to promote healing and prevent infection.

You'll also have a series of six post-operative appointments, with the first one scheduled the day after your surgery. These appointments can be conveniently arranged with one of our eye doctors. Depending on your post-surgery vision, you may be given temporary eyeglasses or scleral lenses to provide clear vision as your eyesight stabilizes.
