Dr. Mike Cymbor, from Nittany Eye Associates, serves as site coordinator for the PA Special Olympic Summer State Games. As site coordinator, he oversees the screening of over 200 athletes, annually.
The mission of the Special Olympics – Lions Clubs International Opening Eyes® is to improve the quality of life for the millions of individuals diagnosed with intellectual disabilities by optimizing their vision, eye health and visual skills through quality eye care. The objectives of Opening Eyes include: providing screenings to Special Olympics athletes, educating athletes, parents and coaches about the importance of regular eye care, educating and changing attitudes of eye care professionals about the vision care needs of persons with intellectual disabilities worldwide, increasing knowledge of visual and eye health needs of persons with intellectual disabilities through research.
Every year, Centre Volunteers in Medicine hosts “Give Kids Vision Day”. The extraordinary event provides free vision services to up to 100 qualifying Centre County children. Nittany Eye Associates and Pediatric Dental Care are partners to the event.
Dr. Fred Carlin from Nittany Eye Associates serves as the Chair for the Mount Nittany Medical Center Golf Classic. The event is held annually to help raise funds for the Mount Nittany Medical Center and has played an integral role in the three-floor expansion of the East Wing. In 2008, the committee made a 5-year pledge to the campaign, promising the proceeds from the events to advance cancer care at Mount Nittany Medical Center and the continued growth of the Medical Center’s cancer program.
